A Washington- based sports’ organisation, DC Knights Youths Sports, has adopted some baseball and softball clubs under the Little League International in Nigeria for full sponsorship.
This is contained in a statement by Kehinde Laniyan, the District Administrator of the league in the country, and made available to newsmen on Friday in Lagos.
It said that the adopted teams are: Swift Eaglets of Akure, Golden Starlets of Akure, Adebayo Braves of Ibadan and Nikky Angels of Ibadan.
It added that the development was borne out of the recognition of the Little League International in Nigeria with the appointment of a district administrator and establishment of six charters in the country.
According to the statement, Gerard Hall, the founder of the organisation, says the teams will receive jerseys, pants, shorts, caps, visor, belts, socks, gloves, catchers’ equipment and bats.
“We will like to offer our support to your league by donating training equipments to enhance the growth of the sport.
“We will work in earnest to ship these items to insure their arrival prior to your season’s end,’’ the statement said.
It would be recalled that Oluyole Plate Burners Baseball and Softball Club was adopted by the Travelling Eagles of Florida in the U.S. in March.
The Little League International is the body responsible for age-grade development of the sport globally. (NAN)
