Some hoodlums believed to be working for the All Progressives Congress, on Tuesday, allegedly attacked the campaign train of Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson.
The attack happened at the popular Swali market in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the timely intervention security aides attached to the Governor’s convoy prevented the thugs from causing more havoc.
Describing the attack as barbaric and undemocratic, the Director of Publicity, Restoration Campaign Organization, Jonathan Obuebite, said in in a statement made available to journalists that the attack lent credence to what the people of Bayelsa have always known that, “the APC is a violent party.”
The statement reads, “Clearly, the APC in Bayelsa State is not prepared for any election. They are prepared for war but as a disciplined party, as a peaceful party and with a governor like Seriake Dickson who came to restore peace in Bayelsa, they will not succeed.
“We advise all our supporters not to allow themselves to be provoked by the APC and its brand of violent politics. We must preach peace at all times and maintain law and order because we are people of peace.”
But the APC in a swift reaction, described the alleged attack as false.
In a statement by the Director, Media and Publicity, Sylva-Igiri Campaign Organisation, Chief Nathan Egba, the APC said that on the contrary, it was PDP thugs that attacked the APC members and burnt one of the trucks they hired to transport refuse to the dumpsite at Tombia area of the state.
He alleged that the windscreen of some of the trucks were smashed by the rampaging PDP members.
Egba stated, “It has come to the attention of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State that incumbent Governor, Seriake Dickson, directed his supporters to attack APC women and youths who were on a rescue mission to evacuate refuse at different dump sites in Yenagoa.
“The reports emanating from Obuebite that APC members attacked the convoy of the Governor at Swali market was false and childish, constituting a diversionary tactics.
“Everybody in Yenagoa knows that APC women came out since 7am today (Tuesday) clearing the rubbish dumps the Dickson administration had ignored over time.”
