The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct rerun elections in areas where their lawmakers have been sacked by the courts within 30 days, stressing that it would enable those constituencies have representation during the budget presentation.
The party, however, rallied support for President Muhammadu Buhari in the fight against the insurgents noting that they are the present common enemy of the Nigerian state.
National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh, stated this while receiving an award from the Northern Youth Network (NYN) at PDP secretariat.
He was awarded the Sir Ahmadu Bello Leadership Award of excellence for being dogged and truthful in advancing the interest of Nigeria countrymen.
The Court of Appeal had reversed the elections of some lawmakers, including Senator David Mark, Uche Ekwunife, Mao Ohuabunwa, Sen George Sekibo, among others.
Calling on INEC to promptly conduct rerun elections, PDP’s spokesman proposed a 30 day period from these dates of the Court of Appeal’s verdicts that reversed their elections.
He maintained that it would be fair if these federal constituencies and Senatorial districts have their voices in the budget that would be affecting the lives of the people, these constituencies included.
Speaking on the fight against insurgency, he stressed that the Nigerian enemy must be made to know that the Nigerian people are united against them.
Metuh said the party made a decision to deliberately restrain itself from politicizing the effort of the military in combating terrorism.
He nevertheless, said PDP will not relent in holding the ruling party to account for the numerous promises they made to the Nigerian people during their change campaign.
The awards were jointly presented by the President of the Northern Youths Network, Mike Msuaan and Yahaya Musa the national vice president of the youth network.
Mike said the youths are available to the party on any issues that would advance the interests of the youths.
He noted that no nation can deliver the dividend of democracy without a vibrant opposition like the PDP and commend the party for not being silent since the change of power.
