Coming days after assuming office last Monday, members of the seven-man national caretaker committee led by a former Kaduna State governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi were yesterday assigned portfolios.
The committee, which was constituted at the May 21 national convention of the party in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was mandated to administer the affairs of the party for three months, within which to conduct a national convention.
A statement yesterday by PDP’s Head of Publicity, Chinwe I. Nnorom, said Senator Ben Obi is secretary of the committee; Prince Dayo Adeyeye (publicity); Hajiya Aisha Aliyu (women and youth); Senator Abdul Ningi (organization and mobilization); Senator Odion Ogbesia (financial, treasury and audit); and Barr. Kabir Usman (legal).
The statement disclosed that the Peoples Democratic Institute, PDI, and the PDP secretariat staff were intimated of the new portfolios, at a meeting between the committee, NDI and the workers.
“The national chairman of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, reiterated that members of the committee would not exceed the period given to them by the national convention to reorganise, reform and conduct a free, fair, credible and an all-inclusive national convention,” the statement read.
