Jigawa State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the state governor Alhaji Badaru Abubakar of squandering public funds to the tune of over N400 million to receive decampees to the party .
The allegation was made in a press statement issued at the party’s secretariat’s Dutse which was signed by its state chairman, Alhaji Salisu Mahmud.
PDP also accused the state government of alleged plan to deny Jigawa people of their right to vote for their choice of local government council leaders in the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
The statement described the refusal of the state government to provide available fund to the State Independent Electoral Commission (JISIEC) to conduct the February polls as irrational and an attempt to undermine the democratic system in the state.
According to the statement, the party wondered why the state government would spend a huge sum of money to receive decampees but cannot release money needed for the two million Jigawa’s electorate to exercise their constitutional right.
PDP, however, vowed to resist any attempt to appoint caretakers at 27 local government councils of the state.
“We are not satisfied with the reasons given by JISIEC for the indefinite postponement of forthcoming February local government poll”
PDP also threatened to file suit and request court order to freeze all the 27 local governments accounts in the state if JISIE exceeded February 28, without conducting the councils’ election.
