The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the All Progressive Congress, APC, in the state of conducting a parallel voters registration ahead of November 26 governorship poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had fixed June 22 to June 25 for the Continuous Voters Registration for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
The Director of Publicity of the PDP, Ayo Fadaka through a statement, noted that the action of the APC was calculated towards compromising future election results in the State.
Fadaka described the APC attitude at this period as not only “criminal but absolutely unpatriotic.”
His words, “We want to bring to the notice of Nigerians that the All Progressives Congress is currently involved in a parallel voters registration exercise, just as INEC is currently executing same program, essentially to capture our young adults in the Voters Register.
“It is now a common sight in all local governments across capturing the bio data of people at this material time.
“It is also important to also declare that we got wind of this development earlier in the week and we wrote letters to the security agencies in the State on Monday 24th June, informing them and equally requested that they be proactive and arrest this criminal development, but it seems our desire in this regard has been rejected.
“We again appeal to INEC and the Security agencies to again stop the APC from taking actions geared towards compromising our elections through the implementation of fraudulent projects like this.
“We also warn that the APC may be unwittingly sowing a seed of discord in this State if it continues to design programs that are intended to rig elections, it just won’t work as the PDP will do all within its capability to ensure that our elections must be free and fair, a word they say is enough for the wise.
Reacting, the APC publicity Secretary, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya described the allegation as a “figment of the imagination.”
Adesanya said” They don’t know what to say because of the Ebola that has engulfed them at the national level which is currently affecting them in the state.
“What APC is doing is the registration of new members not voters’ registration. We want to know the number of our members across the state.
“Corruption brought PDP together and now that the corruption has been uprooted by the present administration, they cannot survive till 2019.”
