Mark Wins Benue South Senatorial Re-Run

Former Senate President, David Mark of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was on Sunday declared winner of the Benue South rerun election conducted on Saturday in the nine local government areas of the district.

Mark emerged winner with a total   of 84,192  votes  to beat his All Progressives Congress (APC) opponent, Daniel Onjeh who scored 71, 621 votes, leaving a difference of 12,571 votes between them.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s Chief returning officer, Prof. Ishaq Shuaibu Enegi declared the result exactly 6:20am on Sunday.

Early result had showed both parties   neck and neck but late into the night when the LGAs results began to trickle in, the former senate president maintained a steady lead.

Addressing newsmen shortly after he was declared victorious, Mark who has dedicated his victory to the Idoma people, appealed to his main challenger, Onjeh to join him in moving Idoma land forward.

As at the time of filing this report, Onjeh was yet to make an official statement, but one of his close supporters disclosed to newsmen that the APC’s candidate would again challenge Mark’s victory at the tribunal.
