As Sokoto State awaits local government election in two months time, Governor Aminu Tambuwal within the weekend inaugurated three committees to mediate in any perceived acrimony that may arise from the All Progressive Congress (APC) primary election.
The three committees, each representing a Senatorial District, was charged with the mandate of ensuring that they reconcile aspirants to pave way for emergence of consensus candidates from each of the local government.
“I appreciate Sokoto people for their understanding and support, especially with the present reality of our dear country.
“We have called you together to inaugurate committees to see how best we can bring people together for reconciliation where possible before the local government election primary date,” Tambuwal stated.
Alhjai Maigari Dingyadi (Katukan Sokoto) who was the campaign Director General, Tambuwal 2015 is to head the Sokoto north senatorial district.
It was gathered from party chieftains that the forthcoming local government election has the potential of splitting the state’s APC, as members, especially the locals, are already registering their displeasure over the perceived cases of candidate imposition.
Expressing his worry, a party chieftain who sought for anonymity from Goronyo local government said, the earlier the state’s APC allow people’s candidate to emerge, the better for the party in the state.
He said it has come to the knowledge of locals that those within the political cycle are trying to install their cronies as a platform of looting their allocations.
The chieftain further warned that should any attempt be made by the newly constituted committees to force popular candidates to step aside for government preferred ones, then, the only option for the locals would be massive defection back to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
