How Our Standing Committees Will Be Constituted – Reps

The leadership of the House of Representatives has explained how and when the much-awaited Standing Committees of the House will be constituted even as members have proceeded on a six-week annual break.

The chairman of the House ad-hoc committee on media and public affairs, Hon. Sani Zoro, told journalists after yesterday’s plenary that the process of constituting the House committees has begun after the inauguration of the Hon. Yakubu Dogara-led Selection Committee on Tuesday.

He added that forms would be circulated to members to indicate their preference of committees in which they will want to serve while the Standing Committees will be constituted in few weeks time.

He Said “Of course, it will capture their not only preferences but their competencies, experience, talents, skills and other qualities that will guide the committee in placing them appropriately.

“This will be achieved also in the weeks to come while in processing. In other words, the Selection Committee of the House as well as other committees that have tasks and assignment to accomplish will be very much around,” The House spokesman also revealed that inputs are currently being made to ensure the relevance of the committees to be constituted and their desirability as the exercise will be based on the new thinking of the House leadership.

On the lawmakers proceeding on holiday barely two weeks after their resumption from another crisis-induced break for weeks, Zoro said the recess being embarked upon by members is a annual ritual as contained in the legislative calendar of the National Assembly.
