The Movement for the Actualisation of Egalitarian Society (MAES) has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its Bayelsa State governorship candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva are already planning to destabilise the state to avoid defeat in the December governorship poll.
A statement issued by the spokesperson of the Movement, Femi Lawson, alleged that the APC planned to destabilise election Bayelsa by using the security apparatus to hijack power irrespective of the outcome of the governorship election, as it was clear to the party it would lose woefully to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which had been on the ground since 1999.
“The reality is hitting them daily in spite of their grandstanding and empty propaganda. Timipre Sylva is now jittery. A recent poll conducted revealed that the party cannot muster more than 17 per cent of the votes in Bayelsa State. Yet, the party is determined to squander several billions of money belonging to Nigerians, on the white elephant project of ‘capturing’ Bayelsa State at all cost.
“It should, however, be noted that these desperate men are becoming a serious threat to the Nigerian polity. They are, obviously, no longer planning for elections but how to destabilise the state. They plan to release fake exit polls announcing APC victory before INEC would release the official results and thereby, cause violence,” MAES alleged.
Lawson further alleged that the governing party also planned to use the military and other security agencies to intimidate the people of the state with a view to coercing them to participate in their rigging plans.
The Movement called on the people to be vigilant and shun the antics of the APC in the state, even as it called on the international community to be on the watch out for the evil plan of the APC as it affects the forthcoming Bayelsa governorship election.
