A mild drama ensued on Monday at the National Assembly when a security aide attached to the Controller-General of Prisons, Ekpendu Peter Ezenwa, Senior Inspector of Prisons Idah Udeh, tried to deny ever assaulting a female member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Onyemaechi Mrakpor, even as three different witnesses confirmed the bodily attack.
Recall that Hon. Mrakpor, who represents Aniocha/Oshimili South federal constituency of Delta State, was allegedly slapped on the face by the CG’s security aide last week Wednesday for attempting to break into the convoy of his principal, which was leaving the National Assembly complex on the fateful day.
The House frowned at the incident and resolved to institute a probe and consequently mandated its relevant committees to summon the Prisons CG and the Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdulrahman Danbazzau (rtd) along with the security agencies stationed in the National Assembly complex to appear and explain their roles.
While Mrakpor came to the public hearing in company of her driver, Friday Hassan and police orderly; the Divisional Police Officer in charge of NASS division, CSP Nancy Ajagbuna came with all police officers on duty that were present at the point of the incident.
For his part, the Controller-General of Prisons, Mr. Ekpendu Peter Ezenwa also came with members of his entourage, who were with him on the fateful day.
The chairman of the House Committee on Interior, Hon. Jagaba Adams Jagaba, set the ball rolling after the necessary formalities and Hon. Mrakpor was subsequently administered oath.
