The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday suffered political crisis in Suleja local government area of Niger State, during the primary election of the party to choose its candidates to represent it at the local government election slated to take place in November this year.
It was gathered that the election was scheduled to commence by 8am, and contestants and their supporters stormed various polling units at their various wards to cast their votes for the candidates of their choice but they waited for long without any officials showing up for the election.
It was learnt that many party members were later told that the selection of candidates was being held at a popular guest house at the Government Lodge by the member representing Suleja/Gurara/Tafa constituency, Hon. Abubakar Lado.
The aggrieved party members were then said to have trooped to the area, chanting insults and war songs but initially, they could not gain access to the compound because it was locked from within.
We further learnt that as the lawmaker was trying to escape from the compound, the aggrieved supporters started hitting his car and damaged the windscreen, before he zoomed out of the area bleeding, while the people took to the streets to show their grievances.
One of the protesters, Murtala Muhammad, said Hon Lado has betrayed the confidence of the people who made sacrifices for the change struggle, pointing out that even during the PDP era, people were not confronted with this kind of dictatorship.
