Local government workers in Nasarawa state have expressed satisfaction with the reform policies of Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura saying it has brought sanity and discipline into local government administration in the state.
Speaking under the umbrella of Concerned Citizens of Local Government Employees, the spokesperson of the group, Musa Baban-yara, stated that unlike in the past when promotions and appointments in the service where carried out without recourse to laid down procedure, there is now strict adherence to the rule of law.
He noted that the open-door policy adopted by the secretary of the local government service commission, Mallam Abdullahi Waziri, in consulting widely before policy-making decisions are taken has greatly reduced friction in the service.
Baban-yara said local government workers are delighted with Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura’s choice of Mallam Waziri whose time intervention has rescued local government administration from the grip of politicians who had turned it into a political vineyard.
He said recognition is given to hardwork and dedication under the current dispensation as opposed to ‘god-fatherism’ and other political and sentimental considerations of the past.
The group urged Almakura to remain steadfast in his quest to reposition and sanitize local government administration in the state, which they observed bear directly on the lives of the people.
