El Kanemi Warriors have announced the appointment of Kelechi Emeteole as the club’s new coach.
Munir Abdul-Azeez who was brought in acting capacity for the team after Salisu Yusuf’s appointment as Super Eagles’ assistant coach was sent packing after the Borno Army bowed to Enugu Rangers in the quarter final of the Federation Cup following their 3-0 defeat.
Emeteole once handled the Maiduguri based outfit in 2011 on return to the Nigeria topflight, but was shown the way out following strings of unimpressive results.
“He has been appointed to rescue the team from its current poor and inconsistent performance, especially in the wake of Wednesday’s 0-3 loss to Rangers International FC of Enugu,’’ said club’s Secretary, Tahiru Bala.
He included that Emeteole’s appointment and laying off of eight players from the team would help it in bolstering its performance.
“These are coming as part of measures to return the Warriors to their rightful position.
“This commendable effort by Governor Kashim Shettima will go a long way in returning the team to consistent winning ways,” he concluded.
El Kanemi are 12th on the NPFL log and will travel to Abia Warriors for their next league game.
