Traditional Chief In Court Over N6.3m Debt

A renowned traditional chief in Zamfara, Alhaji Muhammad Kabiru Liyafa (Dan Isan Gusau), is facing court trial over alleged N6.3million debt he owes one Hajiya Kyauta, a popular politician in the state.

Kyauta filed the case demanding the amount from the traditional chief, being the value of clothing, shoes, women handbags, necklaces and perfumes he collected on credit over a long period of time.

The case which was filed at the Shari’a Court, Samaru Gusau, has been pending for want of full details of the assorted items, including the verified cost of each unit of item received by the respondent.

The presiding judge, Mukhtar Ibrahim, adjourned hearing to 23rd of this month when the plaintiff is expected to submit the verified list of the assorted items received by the respondent.

The lawyer to the respondent, Barrister Aminu Junaidu, had earlier challenged the validity of the submission filed by the complainant, praying the court to direct the lawyer to the complainant to produce and submit a verified copy of the list of items claimed to have been received by the respondent.

“According to Order 24 of the Civil Procedure, the price of each item contained in the submission should clearly be specified for the court to understand the actual value and how the transaction was carried out between the two parties”, the presiding judge emphasised.
