Police Kill Five Kidnappers In Rivers

Rivers State commissioner of police, Mr. Musa Kimo, has revealed that men of his command killed five suspected kidnappers and rescued three kidnap victims in parts of the state in the last five days.

He also said efforts were on by the command to rescue a female columnist with Vanguard, Donu Kogbara, who was kidnapped in the Nkpogu area of Port Harcourt on August 30, 2015.

Kimo, who spoke to newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday, said the police also arrested three suspected kidnappers, five suspected armed robbers and seven suspected members of various cult groups within the period.

He said, “In the early hours of 03/09/15, around 3:45am, police operatives raided Ishaka creeks and rescued Ann Emeka ‘F’, a kidnap victim who was abducted on 28/08/15. Her rescue did not come easy as there was a gun duel between the police and suspected kidnappers during which three of the kidnappers were fatally injured.

“Similarly, one Friday Desmond was rescued this morning (yesterday) at about 1:15am in a forest along the East-West Road. The victim was kidnapped on 05/09/2015. Three suspected kidnappers of the victim, namely, Promise Ugochi, Stephen Jumbo and Uchechi Nwachukwu, were arrested.

“This morning (yesterday), at about 5:30am, our men with the aid of modern technology tracked down a phone line used in demanding ransom to Ogbogoro waterfronts, rescuing Polycarp Nwosu who was kidnapped on 28/08/2015 at Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt, while two notorious suspected kidnappers got fatally wounded when they engaged our men during the rescue process.

Speaking on the abducted columnist, Kogbara, he said: “Let me assure you and her family that we are doing all that is humanly possible to safely rescue and reunite her with you and her family members. Your support and patience in this regard is highly needed.”
