Police Inspector Detained For Working With Suspected Robber

A policeman, Inspector Omotosho Festus, aka, Ijaya, who a suspected robber, Akeem Popoola, said he worked for as partner in crime, has been detained by the Lagos state Police Command.

This came after the state Commissioner of Police, CP, Fatai Owoseni summoned the Inspector following the allegation by the 21-year-old suspect.

It would be recalled that Popoola had on Monday confessed that he had worked for Inspector Festus who used him to swindle unsuspecting victims for about four months before he was arrested for robbery and burglary.

The suspect confessed that apart from burglary, he was also involved in the sale of stolen phones after collecting them from the Inspector attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, of the state Police Command, Ikeja.

Following his confession, the Command had said investigation had commenced into the allegation raised against the Inspector by the suspect.

According to the CP, “Omotosho would be sanctioned accordingly if found culpable of the allegation.

However, confirming the detention of the embattled police Inspector on Thursday, the state Police spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, said he would be prosecuted for criminal charges if found culpable of the allegation.

She said, “The CP Lagos State Command has ordered his (Ijaya’s) detention. The command and the Ogun State Police Command are investigating the criminal charges. If he is culpable, he will be prosecuted.

“The leadership of the police is committed to cleaning up the force and will continue to decisively deal with bad eggs.”
