Police Dismisses 2 Senior Officers After Appeal

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of two senior police officers following a deliberation on the appeal filed by the officers.

According to a statement by the Commission’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, two other senior officers were retired compulsorily while the ranks of three others were reduced. Eleven senior officers were given letters of severe reprimand.

Ani who said the decisions were reached during the Commission’s 13th plenary meeting also said that the inspector-general of police, Solomon Arase, had been notified for immediate implementation.

“The Police Service Commission has taken various decisions in respect of police discipline after exhaustively deliberating on 37 Pending Disciplinary Matters and 65 appeals and petitions before it.

“These were part of the highlights of the decisions of the 13th Plenary Meeting of the Commission held in Abuja and presided over by its chairman, Sir (Dr) Mike Mbama Okiro, a former inspector-general of police.

“The Commission approved the dismissal of two senior police officers, retired compulsorily two others and reduced the ranks of another three. It also approved letters of severe reprimand for 11 senior officers, letters of reprimand for eight, letters of warning for three and letters of advice for four. The Commission also exonerated four police officers,” Ani stated.

Fifteen of the 65 appeals and petitions received approval for the reinstatement of the affected officers, nine were reinstated and retired while 41 others were rejected.
