A 45- year-old woman was at the weekend arrested by men of Nigeria security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State command, for allegedly selling fuel from vandalised pipeline.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Mr Olanrewaju Kareem, the suspect, Mrs Toyin Olatunbosun, was arrested in an early morning operation after receiving information about activities of vandals around the area.
He said the corps following a tip off knew about the woman and her accomplice, one Ajayi, now at large and their illegal activity of receiving petroleum products especially premium motor spirit (PMS) and selling same to neighbours and other members of the public.
The suspect, he said, was arrested at her residence around Daramola close, Oriyanrin, Akute, in Ifo local government area of Ogun State where she normally stored the illegal product in large quantity.
The corps PRO said Olatunbosun has confessed that the ‘on the run’ Ajayi usually assisted her to link up with vandals and they did bring the products very early in the morning while she paid them later or instantly in some cases.
However, Kareem said the corps commandant in the state, Aboluwoye Akinwande, has mandated the officer in charge to ensure that other suspects mentioned were arrested and prosecuted immediately, stressing that the corps would continue to carry out such surprise exercise in vandalism-prone areas.
