Former head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has said that leaders alone cannot fight the myriad of security challenges confronting Nigeria and, therefore, advocated the need to galvanise Nigerians for intelligence and participation.
Gen. Abubakar, who hosted and declared open a Strategic Stakeholders’ Security meeting organised by Abdulsalami Abubakar Institute for Peace and Sustainable Development Studies (AAIPSDS) and Pan-African Strategic and Policy Group (PANAFSTRAG) at his Maizube farm along Bida Road, Minna, urged all Nigerians to support the federal government in surmounting the security challenges.
“We can’t leave solution of insecurity to the government alone or for our leaders alone to fight this menace”, he stated, while lamenting that the country has never been so bedevilled by all sorts of security challenges.
He said, “Our country today is bedevilled by all types of insecurity, from kidnapping to Boko Haram and all sorts of terrorism. This is an issue that should involve every Nigerian. We all must assist the government and security agencies to find solution and the way forward on how to curb this menace.
“That is why we have come together to brainstorm and come up with lasting solution. We have invited retired and serving military personnel, the traditional rulers, who are the ones at the grassroots and people from the North East, who are at the receiving end of terrorism to share their experiences to help us look at the issue in totality and come up with lasting solution”.
