Strong indications are emerging on the plans to make Minna Airport a Cargo airport to decongest the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, even as facilities have been upgraded in the airport.

Giving this indication when the  Niger State governor, Abubakar Sani Bello inspected some Air Force projects at the airport yesterday,  the commander of the Air Force Base, Minna, Air Commodore Dahiru  Sanda said the command was being strengthened as part of a strategic plan to improve the operations of the force and enhance its efficiency and effectiveness.

According to him,  the proximity of Minna to the Federal Capital Territory had made it necessary for the federal government to upgrade the Minna International Airport so that it could land international flights as well as provide an alternative Cargo Terminal.

Consequently, the governor said he will see to the successful completion of the new Hanger and Terminal as well as Administrative Block being constructed at the Minna International Airport.

The governor, who spoke after inspecting the project, said the Nigerian Air Force is moving more of its activities to Minna, and that the airport had been chosen to take care of certain aspects of the force’s operations
