An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced one Ifeanyi Christopher, 32, to two years imprisonment for stealing a laptop.
Chief Magistrate Idowu Ayenimo, however, gave the convict, who admitted committing the offence, N40, 000 option of fine.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Bamikole Olasunkanmi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 23 at Kay Kalax Hotel, Oke-bola, Ado-Ekiti.
He said that the accused, on the said date, allegedly stole a laptop valued at N20,000, belonging to one Victor Oyebode, a staff of the said hotel.
According to him, the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, C 16, Vol. 1 Laws of Ekiti State 2012.
The accused, however, pleaded guilty to the charge, saying that he was stranded in the state and needed money to go back to his destination in Cross River. (NAN)
