The Chairman of Guri Local Government in Jigawa, Alhaji Haruna Dauda, said the council had concluded plans to construct drains at Musari community in order to control flood in the area.
Dauda stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Guri, Jigawa, on Thursday.
He said that the project was designed to ease flow of water and control flood in the flood-prone community.
The chairman said that the project would be captured in the 2016 budget.
“We recorded 525 houses and 248 farmlands destroyed by flood at Musari village recently.
He said the council would adopt proactive measures to control flood by sensitising communities in the area to desist from erecting structures and dumping wastes on waterways.
Dauda said that the council had so far distributed relief materials provided by the national and state emergency management agencies to the victims.
He said the items distributed to the victims include; foodstuff, money, clothing and building materials. (NAN)
