Late Tor Tiv Goes Home Feb 4 – Gov Ortom

The Benue State Government has announced that the late Tor Tiv IV, Orchivirigh Alfred Akawe Torkula, will be laid to rest on February 4, 2016.

Governor Samuel Ortom, who stated this in Makurdi yesterday, added that the burial date was fixed after a meeting with the Tiv Area Traditional Council.

The battle over who emerge as the new Tor Tiv, within the Tiv sharing blocs, has begun and consultations between the traditional units that would produce the next King is on-going.

In a statement signed by the special adviser on media and ICT to the Governor, Tahav Agerzua, the state government said the traditional council has announced the constitution of a central planning committee with Gen Atom Kpera (Rtd) as chairman, Senator Joseph Kennedy Nyikwagh Waku, as deputy, and Hon. Titus Zam, Special Adviser, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs as Secretary.

Ortom also urged the committee to liaise with members of the family and other major stakeholders to draw up a comprehensive programme that would enhance a simple but befitting farewell for the departed royal father.
