The traditional ruler of Ibiaku Issiet in Uruan local government area of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Williams Etim, has been reported kidnapped.
Williams and his elder brother, Placid Etim, were said to have been abducted on Thursday at about 2.30am at their country home, Ibiaku Essiet.
A member of the family and a former lawmaker at the Federal House of Representatives, Bassey Etim, told newsmen that the kidnappers called him and demanded N200million ransom.
“They called me at about 12.00 noon yesterday to demand N200million before they could be released. I don’t know where I can raise such a huge amount of money,’’ he lamented.
Etim, who was a former chairman of the House Committee on Economic and Financial Crime, Drugs and Narcotics decried the rising spate of kidnapping in the country and urged security agencies to wade into the matter by ensuring the timely release of his kinsmen.
The ex-lawmaker who pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to assist the family disclosed that several attempts to reach out to one of the kidnappers who had earlier called him to demand for the ransom were unsuccessful.
