The House of Representatives committee on public accounts was shocked on Tuesday when the Director General of police pension office, Nellie Mayshak told members that there are no documents to account for over N24 billion police pension funds.
The pension office was defending its 2014 budget when the issue of pension funds was raised.
The Chairman, House Committee on public accounts, Olamilekan Solomon during the budget defence said: “From the documents you have given to us, there is no document concerning both the taking and the releases made for this N24 billion at your disposal.
“That you have searched everywhere, you have looked into every document and you cannot find any and there is no need of going back and forth.
Responding to this, the Director General of Police Nellie Mayshak said: “I am here to tell you that I do not have documents to explain how N24 billion was spent and that is the truth.
“The internal auditor is the member of the staff that we acquired. We had a meeting and I asked about what they had in their possession, we actually did a number of back and forth.
“What I was shown and the few scanty documents that I saw, are not the type of evidentiary documents that I can bring to a committee like this I don’t have the beginning, I don’t have the end, I don’t have names”.
This revelation left the house committee in shock.
