Three people were said to have been killed, including a baby, while many others were injured when armed robbers raided two banks in Festac Town, Lagos, on Tuesday morning.
The three persons, a woman, man and a baby were shot dead when armed robbers raided two new generation banks at FESTAC, Lagos.
The three persons were alleged to have been hit by stray bullets from the armed robbers who took over the banks for over 50 minutes without resistance from the security agencies.
The police recovered N27, 715,921.74k and 240 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition abandoned by the robbers at the scene of the robbery.
It was gathered that over 20 armed robbers came in two vehicles to one of the banks at about 7.45 am and attempted to enter the bank but the bank security guards who suspected the robbers quickly locked the security doors against them.
The robbers allegedly used dynamite to blow open the door and gained access to the bank.
The hoodlums took over the bank hall and looted the bank vault. After robbing the bank at the 4th Avenue, they still stormed another bank near it.
It was gathered that while the robbery lasted, the hoodlums who were armed with GMP riffles were firing sporadically to scare away the anti-robbery policemen.
It was also learnt that after about 40 minutes of operation, the Area ‘E’ Festac Commander, ACP Frank Mba and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Monday Agbonika mobilized their men and went after the robbers who fled the scene abandoning some of their ammunition and the sum of about N28 million and escaped in two boats through the carnal.
