EFCC Quizzes NAFDAC Boss Over Corruption

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday quizzed the director-general of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr Paul Orhii, over alleged abuse of office and spending of billions of naira generated by the agency without approval from the relevant agencies.

Orhii was said to have arrived at the EFCC headquarters at about 9 am, following an invitation sent to him by the anti-graft agency, asking him to appear before it for interrogation. He was said to have been quizzed for several hours.

According to a reliable source at the EFCC headquarters, Orhii was later released on administrative bail by the EFCC operatives.

A former director of finance at NAFDAC, Ademola Mogbojuri, had claimed that the NAFDAC boss was involved in some shady deals and financial recklessness. But the NAFDAC boss had denied the allegations, insisting that he did not indulge in any reckless spending.

He visited commission on his own volition – NAFDAC

But NAFDAC has debunked media report that its director general, Dr Paul Orhii, has been arrested by the EFCC yesterday in Abuja, saying that Orhii visited the EFCC office of his own volition.

A statement by NAFDAC’s director, Special Duties, Alhaji Jimoh Abubakar, said the visit was a normal and routine process for those who are familiar with the procedure of an investigative agency like EFCC.

The statement reads in part, “There’s nothing unusual about this but to applaud the DG for his courage to want to engage the recalcitrant director who has decided to dance naked in the public and become a willing tool in the hands of the counterfeiters to infiltrate and derail an organised system.”
