The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday quizzed Ifeoma Nwobodo, former chief of staff to the former governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime, over sundry allegations bordering essentially on conspiracy, money laundering, misappropriation of public funds and abuse of office during her time in office.
According to a source within the EFCC, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Mrs Nwobodo arrived at the headquarters of the anti-graft agency at about 9.30am and was immediately ushered into the interrogation room where a team of crack detectives commenced intensive interrogation of her until late yesterday.
The source further explained that her invitation was believed to be in line with the interrogation of her former principal as the EFCC recently received many petitions indicting Chime during his eight-year rule of Enugu State.
Meanwhile, the anti-graft agency yesterday arrested and detained former director general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Patrick Akpobolokemi in Lagos.
The former NIMASA DG is being quizzed over some multibillion naira transactions he approved towards the end of Goodluck Jonathan’s regime.
There have been several allegations of financial impropriety against the former DG, especially the financing of most of the hate campaigns against President Muhammadu Buhari in the build-up to the 2015 elections.
Also, in 2012, the Fiscal Responsibility Commission accused the Maritime Agency of failing to render its audited accounts from 2007 to 2011.
However, when the spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren was called to comment on the story, his phone numbers were switched off.
