Ijaw Indigenes in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State on Thursday sent a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari over the need to order the resumption of work on the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) project in Escravos area of the local government council as a clear solution by the Federal Government to solve issues of unemployment and economic recession.

The concerned Ijaw Indigenes, under the aegis of the Warri Ijaw Peace Monitoring Group (WIPMG), noted that though the Export Processing Zone project already possesses two components of Gas City at Ogidigben and Deep Seaport at Gbaramatu, all President Mohammadu Buhari needed to do is to direct resumption of work and the land for both components of the project is ready to start construction and coupling of machines.

The Chairman of the Warri Ijaw Peace Monitoring Group (WIPMG), Chief Patrick Bigha, who signed the letter and made it available yesterday  to leadership via email, pointed out that the project contractors is expected to engage 150,000 work force at the construction level and 5,000,000 work force at the completion of the project.

According to the Letter, “It would be recalled that during the ground breaking ceremony performed by former president Goodluck Jonathan, on Thursday March 26, 2015, the drivers of the project did say that the project will engage 150,000 work force at the construction level and 5,000,000 work force at the completion of the project. No doubt this is a project that will reduce unemployment to minimum bearing if not totally eradicate unemployment in this part of the country.”
