DSS Invasion Of Akwa Ibom Govt House Is Political, Says PDP

The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Uche Secondus has again accused the All Progressive Congress (APC) of plotting to take over Akwa Ibom government using security agencies.

Secondus, led other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party on what they called “solidarity visit to the people of Akwa Ibom,” following the invasion of Government House, Uyo, penultimate Thursday, by agents of the Department of State Security (DSS). While addressing party supporters on arrival at Akwa Ibom Airport, Uyo, he described the invasion as a coup plotted by the APC.

Hear him: “We are here on a solidarity visit to the good people of Akwa Ibom State since the incident of the invasion of your government house. The national working committee took that decision that we must come here and pay this solidarity visit to the governor and the good people of Akwa Ibom state; to encourage them and stand by them that it is time for the rest of the world to know that the action of the APC-led Federal Government is unlawful and unacceptable.

“It has never happened anywhere in the world in a democratic setting that a security arm of government has invaded the government house. It has never happened before; from the First Republic till today, it hasn’t happened anywhere. What happened in Akwa Ibom can be an equivalent of a political coup by APC. What are they looking for in government house? Why can’t they go to the Government house controlled by the APC? The PDP chieftain queried.

“We have seen that the APC-led Federal Government is partial; is partisan. In fact as of now, the whole world should know that the DSS is an arm of the APC to forcefully take over what belongs to the PDP.

“They have arranged; they are saying it all over without even the rule of law that Akwa Ibom State is a must for them. But which have told them that the good people of Akwa Ibom say you can’t take us by force. We trust the Nigerian judiciary that they would do the right thing. They are not partisan; they won’t listen to all those gossips.

“All the other plans by the DSS to forcefully ask some their security agencies to appear at the tribunals; are not problems. We know the truth which the good people of Akwa Ibom State, the entire population voted for PDP. That is the truth and we must defend the truth,” Secondus told PDP supporters before leading party members to Akwa Ibom State Government House to meet with Gov. Udom Emmanuel.

As at the time of filing this report, the APC has not re- acted to the allegation as its state publicity secretary, Mr Ita Awak, pleaded for time to make appropriate response.

Recall that APC leaders, recently accused the PDP of plotting to sabotage the DSS investigation with regards to the raid on government house, through avalanche of press conferences and advertorials, to divert people’s attention from what actually attracted the DSS to visit the presidential lodge of the government house.

The press statement which was read by Mr Awak said “We strongly condemn the initial ambivalence of the Akwa Ibom State government in dealing with the incident and the governor’s clandestine efforts in stoking up whipping up sentiments and emotions to curry political support from our people in what is clearly a security issue.

“By organizing these press conferences addressed by chieftains of PDP and funding newspaper advertorials to attack President Buhari, the Federal government and the DSS, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and his party, PDP, want to demean the authority of Mr. President and embarrass the DSS, thus   blunting or impeding the on-going was against impunity, corruption, criminality and insecurity,” the party stated.
