Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Sokoto-Kebbi Zamfara Area Command have seized imported Indian hemp and other contraband goods worth over 50 million along the Kamba boarder post of Kebbi state.
Speaking on the seisure and their vow to adequately address smuggling, the new Comptroller who is just a week old in the command, said, they would continue to work in synergy with other relevant agencies to archieve that feat.
Addressing newsmen at the Command in sokoto yesterday, Kabiru said, the Nigerian Customs is motivated to carry out its statutory role.
Talking on the seizure, Kabiru listed them to include 250 parcels of foreign compressed and processed Indian hemp, 598 cartons of mosquitoe coils, 18 bales of sport wears, 396 cartons of Nescafé, six cartons of sex enhancer drugs, two cartons of condensed milk among other contraband goods.
The foreign Indian hemp as well as some of the drugs, according to him has great negative effects on the country especially the fact that, the target consumers are our youths.
While divulging that, the driver and one other person are been detained for questioning, the Comptroller assured that, they must investigate to know who were the real owners.
A vehicle with registration number, Lagos XR 911 MUS was impounded for carrying both the Indian hemp as well as the other contrabands.
‘’Two other suspects, the driver and one other person are also in our custody and we will dig further to get the real owners of the seized goods. This feat was recorded sequel to myriad of intelligence gathering and surveillance, coupled with inter-agency synergy, and we will not relent in doing this.”
‘’NCS will not relent in its bid to make Nigeria smuggling-free and a better country for all of us,’’
He further called on all those engaged in such businesses to have a rethink and repent otherwise the youths, whose future they are destroying, by getting them addicted to Indian hemp and other hard drugs, might end up hurting them tomorrow.
Kabiru further assured of NCS commitment towards actualising the objectives of President Muhammadu Buhari to sanitise Nigeria.
