Chlorine Gas Leak Still Pollutes Jos Disaster Area – NCDC Boss

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control has said there are still traces of Chlorine leakages at the Lamingo water treatment plant Jos, Plateau State, which led to the death of over eight recently.

The director and chief executive of the centre, Prof Abdusalam Nasidi stated this while speaking to journalists shortly after inspecting the site in Jos yesterday.

He said the centre would have to embark on a massive health education on what to do when there is a leakage such as what had happened in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

Dr Nasidi who went round plant with heads of other federal government parastatals including the zonal director of the National Food Drugs Administration and Control, Mrs Josephine Dayilin, World Health Organisation (WHO) representatives and officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said one of his reasons for the visit was to assess and advise the state government on compensation for victims of the disaster. He also hinted that all those living within the vicinity of the state Water Board might be moved to other locations.
