Gunmen have attacked trucks conveying relief materials to the designated camps where the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the Benue killings are taking refuge .
This came just as six persons out of the 13 member gang that diverted the relief items were arrested by security operatives in some parts of the state.
The executive secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr. Boniface Ortese stated this yesterday in Makurdi at the presentation of relief items to the IDPs by the wife of the vice president, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo.
The wife of the vice president was accompanied by wife of Benue state Governor, Eunice Ortom and her husband, Governor Samuel Ortom, as well as political stakeholders and traditional rulers among others.
The donated items include assorted brands of bags of rice, tomatoes, beans, oil, milk and drugs among others.
The SEMA boss, Ortese narrated how the relief materials were diverted by a syndicate that ambushed the trucks conveying the items and who forcefully directed the drivers of the vehicles to unknown destinations.
According to him, six members of the gang were later apprehended while others including the leader of the group fled into the bush.
He faulted the claim by the assailants that the relief items were meant for donation to only displaced persons of Agatu attacks.
