Bayelsa To Mark 20th Anniversary In Low Key

The Bayelsa State government yesterday announced a small budget to mark the 20years anniversary of the creation of the state.
The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite said despite the recession, the people and government of the state are extremely delighted that Yenagoa the state capital has massively transformed into an emerging economic and social hub.

According to Obuebite,”Today, we can also boast of producing a president with remarkable achievement trailing his stay in office. This is in addition to other lofty achievements recorded by proud sons and daughters of the state in various spheres.

“By sheer commitment, unity of purpose and sense of patriotism, we have remained together and I believe we are willing to continue as one state and people despite various provocation aimed at threatening or undermining our existence.
“After a careful retrospect of the last 20 years, the Government of His Excellency, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson has thought it necessary to put together a low budget programme to mark the 20 years milestone. Let me emphasis that the anniversary is of a low budget. I am making the emphasis because I know it is going to be another point for enemies of the state to shamelessly attack this government.

“Bayelsa was created on October 1, 1996 from the old Rivers State by the late former military ruler General Sani Abacha. Since its creation, the state has been governed by military and civilian leaders. From what many people termed a glorified local government headquarters, Yenagoa the city centre has massively transformed into an emerging economic and social hub. In the same vein, development is spreading fast to other areas.”
