The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai has said the army is set to launch a new operation code named “OPERATION RESCUE FINAL” with the aim to rescue every Boko Haram abductee and all other kidnapped victims.
Buratai stated this at the Army Headquarters Abuja when he played host to members of House Committee on Army.
Buratai said once the operations begins, the army won’t relent until every Nigerian in any form of captivity is rescued.
He further said every petition or complain of human rights violation by personnel directed to the army are often responded to promptly and immediate actions taken. He maintained that every perceived infringement of rights perceived whenever the army interface with civilians are not deliberate.
He thanked the committee for increased budget allocation to the army in 2016 and solicited for more support to enable it address the challenges of infrastructural decay and negligence of barracks adding that it will also enable the force carry out its statutory functions.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman, House Committee on Army, Hon Rimande Shawulu applauded the army for doing so much with very little resources.
He said despite huge challenges, men and women under arms are still have the motivation to fight.
He urged the army to give quicker response to issues of friction between the force and civil populace referred to them from the committee.
