The Acting Director, Anambra Fire Service, Mr Benedict Ofoma, has advised people against scooping petroleum products from fallen tanker vehicles to avoid fire outbreak, loss of lives and property.
Ofoma gave the advice during his interaction with newsmen in Awka on Wednesday.
He spoke against the backdrop of a recent tanker vehicle laden with petroleum product which fell at Umunya in Oyi Local Government area.
Ofoma said that efforts were on to contain fire outbreaks in the state and urged the people to always give prompt information on fire incidents anywhere in the state.
He decried the fallen tanker vehicle carrying petroleum product at Umunya and the fire incident at Ogbaru Industrial Estate where a company which produced oil and paint was gutted by fire.
According to him, the state fire service was contacted on the Ogbaru fire incident and it responded immediately.
He said the fire service was able to stop the fire from spreading to other companies.
Ofoma said that efforts in fighting another fire outbreak at Afor Nnobi was commendable and advised people to avoid any act which could cause fire outbreak in their areas.
He commended Gov. Willie Obiano for providing some facilities for the fire service to effectively carry out their functions.
Ofoma appealed to philanthropists and other relevant authorities to assist the fire service with some equipment to boost their efficiency and performance. (NAN)
