As part of efforts to create jobs through sustainable economic programme, government of Akwa Ibom State said it will soon establish regional markets in the three senatorial districts of the state.
Governor Emmanuel, who stated this at Eket local government area where he flagged off the construction of an Ultra Modern Regional Market, said each of the market projects would be undertaken through Public Private Partnership and would have 5,000 stores alongside banks and a sewage system.
He explained that government will welcome with open hands partners with genuine intention and innovative ideas that would lift it from the current economic doldrums rather than distractions by gingering ethnic bigotry.
He commended the people of Eket Senatorial District for being the first beneficiary of the regional market project which he said would also be established in Uyo and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Districts.
He assured the women of availability of funds through a Micro Credit Scheme to enable them access funds, secure the market stalls as well as grow their businesses and used the occasion to express appreciation to the people for returning the Peoples Democratic Party in the just concluded House of Assembly re-run election saying that the victory is a confirmation that Akwa Ibom is a PDP state.
On his part, the state commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry said the market project undertaken under Public Private Partnership arrangement, has 5,000 shops alongside banks and sewage systems.
