170 Crime Suspects Arrested In Mop Up Operations By Police

One hundred and seventy suspects were arrested by the   Niger State police command in one month for various offences out of which 31 were still under investigation in various mop up operations to curb crimes.

The commissioner of police in charge of the command, Abubakar Marafa, disclosed this at the weekend while hosting the assistant inspector-general of police in charge of zone 7, Bala Nassarrawa, who came on a tour of the command.

He stated that of the arrest made, 132 were charged to court, 72 suspects were conviction secured, and 60 other suspects were awaiting trial and 31 cases were under going further investigation for prosecution.

The police commissioner added that the command had recovered property estimated at N2.838 million stolen by some of the suspects adding that the command under took mop up operation to dislodge bandits like cattle rustlers and associated criminals in some selected locations in Sarkin Pawa, Kaffin- Koro and Gurara.

According to him, “During the operation, 25 suspects were arrested, the command also recovered two locally-made pistols, three locally- made single barrel guns , one toy pistol, four rounds of 9.18mm caliber of ammunition and 20 cartridges.”
