Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, said yesterday that the nation can only develop when the worrisome issue of power is addressed.
Tamnuwal who insisted that the country is still struggling to attain energy sustainability, added that, time is now ripe for state governors to look inward and bring out the renewable energies that abound in their respective states.
The governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Bashar Garba at the Solar Africa 2017 Conference held in Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, noted that North West governors are coming together on how to improve energy.
The theme of the conference is “Renewable Energy As A Viable Tool For Sustainable Energy For All”. Tambuwal stressed that, with improved power supply, the worrisome issue of unemployment as well as some preventable diseases would be drastically reduced.
He divulged further that concerted effort at renewable energy will help minimize the extent of power outages being recorded in the country.
“Sokoto has signed an MoU with a Chinese firm to generate 100MV of Solar electricity. And all the neighbouring countries surrounding Nigeria cannot boost of sufficient power hence the availability of market for the firm.
