The Ekiti State government has taken awareness campaign on the prevention and spread of Lassa fever disease to the grassroots. Launching the campaign on Tuesday, Gov. Ayo Fayose said that everything humanly possible would be done to ensure that the disease does not spread in the state. Fayose, represented by his deputy, Dr Kolapo Olusola, kick-started the awareness campaign at Ise/Orun and Emure local government areas of the state.
He said that Ekiti does not deserve to be among states being listed as prone to Lassa fever. He said that the latest effort was aimed at curbing further prevalence of the killer disease in the state.
The governor enjoined residents to imbibe spirit of cleanliness and good hygiene to avoid being infected.
He said that all the 16 local government chairmen have been directed to embark on the campaign and ensure that suspected cases are promptly reported to government for immediate action.
Fayose assured that the campaign would not stop until all residents have been fully sensitised against the disease. No fewer than three persons have been confirmed by the state government to have been diagnosed with the disease in the last two weeks.
