Eyewitnesses claim they have seen bodies in the street, with emergency services flooding to the scene at Erawan Shrine after a bomb was detonated.
Images shared on social media have shown destruction of the surrounding area, and bodies lying dead in the street.
There are reports that some of the dead may be foreign tourists.
The blast took place just after 7pm local time at Erawan Shrine Bangkok, with emergency services racing to the scene.
