Ghana President Names New Central Bank Governor

Ghanaian President, John Mahama, has named Mr Abdul Issahaku as substantive Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), the presidency announced on Tuesday.

This followed the retirement of Mr Henry Wampah, who retired as the apex bank’s governor at the end of March, with four months left in his tenure.  As the 14th substantive governor of the BoG since 1957, Issahaku, an economist, faces two major challenges of maintaining currency stability which started under Wampah and reining in double-digit inflation.

The appointment of Issahaku as substantive governor of BoG came after First Deputy Governor of the bank, Millison Narh, was earlier named as acting governor of the central bank.
